I only watched this film because it had Johnny Depp in it and I knew it wasn't too long before it started, but I believe I made a mistake by taking that desition. I don't find this movie worth talking about, so I'm gonna make this quick.
It's the 1950's, and there are only two kinds of people in the world: Squares and delinquents. If you're one of those refined young men/ladies, who are mommy's girl/boy and don't wear what's considered cool, then you're a square, and in this film, squares are proud to be squares -at least they say so, loudly-. But if you're like Wade "Cry Baby" Walker (Johnny Depp), who goes around driving fast in his neat car, then you're a 'juvenile delinquent', and in this film people like Cry Baby are pretty darn proud to be "a happy delinquent", as he says. I find all of this quite dumb.
Anyways, Cry Baby falls in love with a square, but she's not a complete square, she seems to want to be around him, although other older squares wont allow this. Cry Baby goes through a lot of crap because of this, from getting his bike burnt to ending up in jail, being threatened to cut his hair short (Aha..).
I don't know how can anyone find this movie good, it is, in the least offensive words, a piece of junk. I think the only people who would like this are those who appreciate that old music that Johnny Depp goes around singing all the time during the film. This is definitely not my kind of music, but I reckon there must be some who enjoy it, so as a musical, it might have been rather nice, for a few people. As a comedy, it stank, as simple as that. And the romance part was garbage too.
Johnny Depp is one of my favourite actors nowdays, he has been in some truly good films, and has played several different characters all with a lot of charisma. But seeing this is the kind of stuff he used to do, I'm glad I've only seen a couple of his older films. Hell, the story of this is based on a guy who cries, but only with one eye, and chicks love it... Right. The rest of the cast includes Traci Lords, Susan Tyrrell, Iggy Pop, Ricki Lake and others. Go check the soundtrack for this film, and unless you like the titles you read, avoid this at all costs.
