What can be said about this movie except ED HARRIS (hmmm, that sounds so much better when I say out loud). Ed Harris is what makes this movie as good as it is. He plays General Hummel who takes over Alcatraz and holds 81 hostages at his helm. He is doing this because he wants reparations paid to all of the families of the victims who died under his comand during Desert Storm.

The Rock has a fairly good plot. It's not to involved and it is pretty essy to follow for all you tough guy morons out there. As said before, Hummel takes over Alcatraz, threatening to send VX gas into the heart of San Francisco killing a shiznit load of people if Washington doesn't pay up the $100 million in reparations. A team of Navy Seals tries to break into the prison with the help of John Mason (Sean Connery) so Stanly Goodspeed (Nick Cage), a chemical weapons specialist, can disarm the rockets. It's pretty simple, there is alot of good action in it, and also has a bunch of corny lines, but that comes with every movie.

What's good about this movie is the fact that Sean Connery doesn't make an appearence until about 35 minutes into the movie. There isn't even a mention of him. Nick Cage isn't really that good in this movie. I think Vin Diesel would have kicked ass in this role. Think about it, Vin would just have had to go in alone and kick the ass of everyone there. But don't get me wrong, Nick did a pretty good job, but not the best. His girlfriend is really freaking hot though. I don't know how a man like that could end up with a woman of her calibur in this movie. She is too damn hot. Too bad I have no clue who she is. But you will agree once you see her, she is very hot. And last but not least, ED HARRIS. Watch this movie for him alone. His intensity will make even you sit there and obey him. Just don't disappoint him. You wouldn't want that.

The Lowdown:
This is a really good (not great) movie. It's a bit on the typical and predictive side. You know exactly how the scenario's are going to end, but the action leading up to it is very good. Sean Connery is the man and the intensity of Ed Harris will keep you glued to the couch. Rent this movie on a Friday night when there is nothing else to do. It will be worth it. (But don't rent it if you have a hot date coming over)
