It’s not only Jet Li that is spectacular in this movie. The Director Woo-ping Yuen has enrolled many of the greatest martial arts skills I have ever seen. Among them, several women are almost more impressive than Jet Li himself. The only woman that is known in hollywood is the star of Croucing Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Michelle Yeoh. One piece of information many don’t know is that Jet Li was offered a role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Matrix 1,2 and 3 (as Neo I think), but didn’t accept it because he had promised his wife to stay home with their new born child.
I am not going into the story of this movie, because it is pointless. However, I will tell you a little something about the fight scenes. For those of you that have seen Ang Lee’s masterpiece, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (or “Wo hu zang long”) will be glad to hear that this movie has more or less the same type of action scenes. The Tai Chi Master has less fighting with weapon (but still more than sufficent), but more original type of fist fights. The “Flying” is not as exaggerated in this movie, something that some of you might appriciate.
It seems like this movie is all positive? NO. As most Hong Kong movies, the acting sucks more than you possible can imagine. The story is totally idiotic and the jokes are extremely cheezy and the dialogue appears to be made of 12 year old boys. The sound is terrible, and when the movie is dubbed to english (from mandarin) you really want to stand up and scream of annoyance.
But, this movie is only for people that enjoyed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and know how to appriciate martial art and block out everything else but the fighting. I’m a martial arts fan and enjoyed the movie’s incredible fighting scenes, and I am sure you will to.
What do you think of The Tai Chi Master
