It's the fourth of July and four best friend students who just graduated are drinking celebrating, they are going in a car when they hit something on the road. When they step down and check, a man is lying on the street. They think he's dead but they don't want to go to the police, so they decide to throw him into the river and pretend nothing ever happened.
A year later, when they are all miserable and separated, Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) receives a note that says "I know what you did last summer", she freaks out and tells her friends who were with her that night, Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Barry (Ryan Phillippe) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.). They all decide to find out who saw them that night a year ago, but they have no luck.
Strange things start happening and people start dying. A man dressed as a fisherman attacked Barry but didn't kill him. From there everyone gets suspicios everytime they see a fisherman, the problem is, it's a fishing town, so there are many fishermans. This man attacks with some sort of hook and seems to be invincible. *laughs*
I must say this was an attemp to duplicate Scream, and it almost had the same rate of success. I find it funny the fact that the guy was dressed up in such a way that you couldn't see his face, if you see it you'd know what I mean. Also it seems like in the streets of that town nobody ever walks through or something, as everytime the man appeared nobody was near to even hear anything. The story is quite cool I must say, the acting is a bit poor and overal it's just a bit above average teenage flicks. I must admit I absolutely loved the fact that this film scares you big time. It's not a scary film, no, but the usage of strong sounds suddenly playing after a very quite scene just makes you jump out of your seat. In your house this wouldn't happen, but with the cinema's sound system and huge screen, everybody reacts the same way. It's not really scary, it's shocking, and therefore a bit scaring. *heh* That is why I gave it a 6 rating, I wish more films of this type were made, it's not exactly a good film but you have to love those shocking scenes. I would only recommend if you're under 21 and don't care to watch teenage flicks.
