Okay, it's a well known fact that ever couple minutes or so a baby is born. But what's Frighting is that with much more frequency, every few seconds, a Wayans movie is made. It would take a lifetime to go through them all, but why do that when you could watch "Scary Moive," the Wyans opus. It has pleanty of Wayns for the whole family, and some cute white girls for the aryan guys like me that get tired of seeing the same african americans say the same marijuana jokes.
Okay, lots of Kennan Ivory Wayan's movies have been parodies. "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" parodying blaxploitation. The parody of movies like "Boyz In The Hood" (You know, there's a whole genre there that still needs to be named) which is the winner for longest film title: "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood," with FOURTEEN words, edging out Ray Dennis Steckler's "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed up Zombies" (12 Words) and barely beating Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb." (thirteen words) And now "Scary Movie," parodying teen slasher movies. Although it's only two words, it's the better of the bunch.
Since mocking movies like "Friday the 13th" and "Scream" is as cliche as asking "Who's there" in a slasher movie, the Wayans Bros compensate by adding PLEANTY of dick jokes, pubic hair, and lots and lots of vulgarity. Watching a guy get his head impaled on an erect penis is much more entertaining than, say seeing the same masked, taciturn killer with the same weapon murder the same big breasted teenager with the same M.O.
This movie is s true comedy in my opinion. It doesn't even TRY to carry a story at all. It's already established what it's parodying and that's enough. The jokes simply carry the movie a long in a great manner. Only about half the jokes really hit well, but because they come at such a rapid rate, quicker than your average Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker movie, you don't care. There are literally 30 jokes a minute. That's a joke every two seconds!
THis COULD be the funniest movie depending on your tastes. I mean, people who think classic inoffensive movies like Charlie Chaplin's "The Gold Rush" are the acme of comedy probably would throw "Scary Movie" in the trash and ask for double their money back. Yet, people who liked rather low brow humor like Mel Brooks or Farrely Brothers movies should like this movie pretty well. It's really a sense of personal taste. Sure, I give it a 8 out of 10 because I thought it was hilarious, original (for a parody), and I respected the fact that they had NO fear of censors when they made this. It's a good movie, if you like dick and fart jokes, even better if you like jokes about female anatomy.
