When I first saw this film as a kid it scared the crap outta me. Not only the Predator was very scary itself but the film was keeping me nervous for some reason, I guess I just didn't want that thing to kill Arnold, one of my childhood favourites.
Major Dutch Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his team of commandos are hired by the CIA to rescue some airmen who went down in some South-American jungle. They arrive to the place, but the find out that something is actually killing all the men. Many times the viewers get to see through it's eyes, and it seems to be some sort of intelligent alien, who is hunting this men down just for fun. It is also collecting their skulls as a trophy.
They all need to survive in the middle of nowhere, but it's very hard to fight something you cannot see, and is stronger, faster, with powerful weapons and probable smarter than you. The Predator also has infra-red vision, which makes it easier for him to find the men. But this men aren't just any men either, they are highly trained people who aren't supossed to fear anything, including killer aliens.
This is a pretty good action film, which keeps you in suspense all the time because you don't know what's going to happen next and how in the world are they going to beat that Alien. Among the cast there are some people who aren't very well known but have done some work at hollywood, like Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, Bill Duke and Shane Black. Very small cast in this film, just the alien and the commandos. It wouldn't really be fair to comment about the performances in this film, since it doesn't really matter, it's the story which is important in here. But if you ask me, the best performance was by Kevin Peter Hall, who played The Predator. You don't see many good films of this kind, but this one is pretty entertaining. The Predator was very well made, it looked really frightening and I loved the way it acted so smartly all the time. If you're not into this kind of movies, Arnold shooting Aliens and stuff, don't watch it because you'll be disappointed. Otherwise, watch it and you might have a nice time.
Note: When my brother visited a "Planet Hollywood" restaurant he actually saw -and filmed- the Predator's head. They also had many suits from other movies like Judge Dredd, etc. That's cool, one day I'm gonna have to go there myself.
